TREE PLANTING
Weddings, like many large gatherings, can have significant environmental footprints due to factors such as transportation emissions, energy usage, waste generation, and food consumption. Here at Moonacre we are dedicated to the continual planting of trees to offset the environmental impact of a wedding. This strategy is aimed at counteracting the carbon emissions and resource consumption associated with the weddings and events we host each year.

You may be wondering how this helps, well in simple terms; Trees absorb carbon dioxide helping to reduce the concentration of the greenhouse gases!

Further benefits of planting trees is that they help regulate our local climate, reduce erosion, improve air and water quality, provide habitat for wildlife, and contribute to overall biodiversity in the local area. Not to mention the visual advantages of being surrounded by greenery and trees in blossom, so its a win win for everyone!

We understand that while planting trees may not completely neutralise the environmental impact of a wedding, it can still make a meaningful contribution to environmental conservation efforts and is something we at Moonacre are proud to be able to contribute!
WASTE MANAGEMENT
Waste management at weddings, especially concerning catering and bar waste!

Weddings generate a significant amount of waste, including food scraps, disposable plates, utensils, decorations, and more. Proper waste management practices can reduce the environmental impact by minimising the amount of waste sent to landfills. Catering services often involve single-use items such as disposable plates, cups, and cutlery. By implementing efficient waste management practices such as recycling and composting, valuable resources like paper, plastic, and organic matter can be diverted from landfills and reused or repurposed!

To support the practices of effective waste management Moonacre provides all suppliers with relevant bins for food waste, recycling and general waste all on site so it can all be taken care of before your suppliers even leave your wedding!
FAIR USE WATER AND ELECTRICITY POLICY
At Moonacre we run a fair water and electricity use policy for weddings in a bid for our weddings to be more eco-friendly. To support this policy we utilise renewable energy sources and have efficient water usage systems.

We also utilise the use of natural light across your wedding from your outside ceremony to inside our marquee, using natural light and ventilation drastically reduces the need for artificial lighting and air conditioning!
BEING A TURN KEY VENUE
As a turnkey venue, Moonacre offers comprehensive services and amenities that make it suitable for weddings without the need for excessive additional decoration. Embracing the decor we provide as standard for your wedding and not feeling the need to add much more than a few personal touches all contributes to making your celebration more eco-friendly.

Adding minimal additional decorations typically involve using fewer materials overall meaning less waste is generated during production and fewer resources consumed.

We’re certainly not saying you can’t enhance your wedding decor but if you do opting for decorations made from sustainable materials like bamboo, reclaimed wood, recycled paper, or organic fabrics will all align with eco-conscious values!

Incorporating elements from nature, such as potted plants and locally sourced seasonal flowers can also add a touch of freshness while minimising environmental impact. They can also be repurposed and make lovely gifts for your guests to take home with them too!
Interested in ways you can be part of our pledge to be kinder to our environment? Here’s a few tips on what you can do to support us:
1
Educate your guests
Include information about your eco-friendly initiatives in your wedding invitations or even better on a wedding website (to reduce paper production!) Encourage guests to join you in reducing their environmental impact during the celebration by following our on-site waste policies, car sharing to your big day and suggest they consider renting or buying second-hand wedding attire!
2
Provide green transport arrangements
Consider arranging shuttle services from hotels or designated meeting points to reduce the carbon emissions associated with travel.
3
Reusable or biodegradable tableware
Choose reusable tableware if possible, such as glassware and china. If disposable items are necessary, opt for biodegradable or compostable options made from materials like bamboo or sugarcane.
4
Use local suppliers
Choosing local suppliers means that goods and services don't have to travel long distances to reach you. This reduces the carbon emissions associated with transportation. Local businesses often have a stronger connection to their communities and may be more inclined to adopt sustainable practices.
